CSL Young Fashion Photographer

I entered the Clothes Show Live Young Fashion Photographer of the Year competition (what a long title!) this year and have made it through to the 10 finalists! wahey.
The brief was 'Movement of a Garment' and here's the photo I sent in...

Cheesy Photoshopping!

Couldn't sleep last night and felt particularly useless. Haven't been the most motivated person for the last month or so which has resulted in the need to take photos at stupid hours. It being a stupid hour I didn't feel leaving the house on my own with a camera was the best idea in leeds, so... this happened.
Its a very cheesy edit but it kept me occupied for an hour or two!

FIlm Shots From the Charity Shop

Seem to be a bit behind at posting on here, but here's some of the photos I took of Katharine in Sunderland! Need to go back with my DSLR some time and do a more organised shoot. Just love all the clutter and organised mess in these rooms.

Charity/Vintage shop!

Went to visit Katharine in Sunderland last week and while charity shopping found the top floor of Age Concert had a huge selection of retro and vintage clothes/objects! Needless to say we absolutely loved it!
This was just taken on my phone of one of the rooms but i love it. Love to say it looks a little mulberry campaign-esque but that might just be me being a little hopeful. i like the busyness of the photo and all the light beige and pink tones. We went back the next day to take some photos with an SLR but unfortunately this room had been changed! unlucky for us. I'll post the photos we took in another post.
How many more times can i say love!?

6am shoot with Bosley.

During my visit to leeds while i was house hunting I met a student photographer and we decided to go out and do a shoot as the sun was coming up at 5/6am. We went out shooting to manipulate and this is one of the image outcomes. Photographed by Tom Bosley and manipulated by myself. Not usually on the other end of the camera but this shoot was very fun!

Hasselblad!

This image is from a portraiture project i did a university. Really loved using the Hasselblad camera! couldn't believe the image quality shooting on this camera with the 120 film. Hopefully post more photos from this shoot soon but this has to be one of my favourites from this collection. Once again katharine was an amazing model and photographed beautifully!

Degrees North Magazine Shoot

This shoot was for the sunderland based DN magazine. The garments modelled by Katharine and Daniel were made by Sunderland fashion students for one of their final projects. They were later displayed at a catwalk show organised by the students which was a huge success!

Back on track?

So I haven't posted on here in a long time, in this time I've dropped out of university and moved to Leeds.
Hopefully getting back to blogging and post some of the things I have backtracked so here goes...

Ink Blot-Thingies and kaleidoscopes

For the lecture after pinhole cameras, we had to create digital negatives. I thought it would be interesting to use my pinhole images to create a digital image that would go back to being developed using the chemical process, so like one round trip back to the same thing. These are the images I made, they are a little cheesy but I couldn't really think of any other distinctive shapes I could use.

I wanted to print something a little less cliché along the same idea so I went on to making some kaleidoscope looking images which i'm pretty happy with...

Pinhole Stereograph Camera

I made a pinhole camera! and a Stereograph one at that. Somehow I'd gone this long without making one before which surprised a few people. the stereograph part of this was by chance though, I didn't have a box for the class so used what was there which happened to be a 1 by 6 inch chocolate box so to make the most of it added two apertures instead of one. The images came out very contrasted and you cant really see the benefit of the two images unless you cross your eyes in a funny way... but it was fun to do and looks interesting so i'm happy!

K.E.O. Fashion Outfit #2

#2 of Katharine's fashion blog, fighting for light with this shoot but i'm happy with the photos. I do quite like this location mind, the low light, setting sun and car lights all tied together nicely.

Katharine and Clat

Here's another photo with Katharine and the Clanny House cat. It's isn't too obvious but this photo was taken in the blizzard we had last month and yes, she is wearing dungarees, voluntarily!
I love how spontaneous this photo was, it started snowing, we grabbed an outfit and ran and the cat was there waiting. perfect.

Pattern Sleeve Ts

Alongside making tie dye Ts i also made some with pattern sleeves sewn on. I personally really like this design and think it livens up a plain T without going overboard and keeping it simple.
I posted these on facebook too and got a few orders in so i decided to make some more with different patterns to see how they looked.

I went into a material shop yesterday and went a little crazy with all the amazing choices they had! believe it or not this is a condensed selection of the material i originally wanted to buy. I'll be sewing them onto white Ts this week and hopefully it wont go too badly.

K.E.O. Fashion Outfit #1.

I'm taking photos for Katharine of her outfits twice a week to contribute to her fashion blog, this is day 1!
It was a very windy day which made it difficult to take the photo outside, finding shelter against this wall was the best we could do. The wind added a slightly more comical value to the images that was originally unintended but i think it gives it a bit more character. More will be posted about these images on Katharine's blog its self so keep an eye out!
The Ginger Moggy.

Tie Dye!

Here's some of the tie dyes i've been making over the last week or two, been having a whale of a time doing these! I've been selling them off over facebook and had a pretty good response which had given me a lot of ideas. This is something i've always fancied doing and finally got around to ordering the Ts and the dye, started off with 5 of them and after selling them all straight away i decided to make more. The ones here are some of my favourites but i made 34 in total.

This was my workshop for the week, much to my families dismay, my array of bins, cake tubs and boxes served me well...

Katharine Oliver

This is my wonderful friend Katharine, she is studying fashion journalism and lives near me and with no doubt is any photographers dream - fashionable, photogenic and a wardrobe bigger than her room itself!
We have decided to team up and create a series of fashion photos, and here's #1.

Hello...

Following a minor mental breakdown from a serious think about my university course/future, I've come to realise I need to get back into the swing of doing a lot more photography and creative things outside of my course.
This blog will be my scrap book of ideas, likes and photos I've taken, hopefully building up into something interesting!
